Our new puppy

We finally have our new puppy we have been patiently waiting for. Her name is Nala and her breed is a Rhodesian Ridgeback. She is 8 weeks old here and a lot of fun. The Rhodesian Ridgebacks have been brought here from South Africa. They were bred for the purpose of hunting lions (they kept them at bay until the hunter could shoot the lion), protecting the family and keeping unwanted animals away from the farm. They are very intelligent, affectionate, loyal and brave dogs. You don't have to worry about them attacking someone but if they feel concerned they will stand between the family member and the stranger. They don't bark much , but if they do it is for a reason and worth checking out. I just love this breed.
We plan on showing Nala at the AKC shows when she is about a year old and then plan to use her for breeding. You can see her ridge of fur that grows in the opposite direction down her back, that is why they are called ridgebacks. They grow to be big dogs. But they are wonderful with children.
